UABAR in Mozilla/ref. DJGM post

Postby Fulvio » Mon 15 Jul, 2002 10:35 am

Hi fellows,
I was quite intrigued by one of the last posts by DJGM.X about a UABAR downloadable from the Mozdev site, because one specific music site, http://www.akoo.com/ would not let me use any Netscape post-4.79. Could I fool it by giving a bogus user agent, or is the thing looking at something?
So,I disguised myself as NS4.78, and no go, and then as IE5.5, still the same long message saying that there is no plugin for Windows Media Player and that the Real Player plugin for NS6 will not work properly. As usual there is no way to enter any feedback.
Most interesting is the fact that if I enter their broadband section, which is very limited, I have no problem. It seems that the embedded player is different.
So much for that

I would not change the UA in order to get in that site, simply refuse.

However, some websites have some good reason to block other (unwanted) browsers to access them... for example, they use proprietary technology extensively to design the website. There is nothing wrong with proprietary, but kick away customers in the web business.
