MAC mail question

Postby MMottster » Sun 24 May, 2009 4:35 pm

I recently switched from PC to iMAC. I've been trying to use the mail function and set up my accounts. My email service is from my cable company. I know I'm supposed to use pop.charter.net for incoming mail and smtp.charter.net for outgoing mail. Yet when I make sure those things are in the correct fields it asks for, it still cannot connect.

I've used the trouble shooting software to verify my internet connection is OK.

I've tried browsing the help topics in the mail program. I must be overlooking the correct topic to help me, I don't know. I know this should be really simple to set up, but its just not working.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most likely you missed out some fields or any other setting. (e.g. password)
If you can, write down all the settings from your PC (Outlook or Thunderbird), and use the same setting in Mail.app (or any other mail app in Mac OS X), you should be all right then.

Some email servers won't allow more than one connections at the same time. (Which means you might need to quit the mail application on PC first.)

Otherwise, you might want to check charter.net for how to make settings.
