Netscape 4.8 with AIX 4.3.3.11

Just installed Netscape 4.8 and putting 192.168.0.1 in the address bar it connects to my Router on a P2P network.
Using the routers home page I can dial my ISP and get connected.
Every time I put any address like http://www.google.com.au in the address bar I get
"Netscape Error
Unable to locate the server www.google.com.au.
Please check server name and try again "

I know the internet connection is okay as an XP machine on my P2P network can use the connection made by AIX4.3.3.11/Netscape4.8.

From the AIX machine I can ping successfully

192.168.0.1 my router
127.0.0.1 the AIX loopback
192.168.0.130 the address of my XP computer
the dialup Ip address of my ISP
The gateway address of my ISP
The two Domain Name Server addresses of my ISP
My XP machine can ping the AIX machine.

Help to correct the problem is appreciated.

I have not set up the email side of things with my ISP in this AIX machine as I want email to all stay with my XP computer.

Thanks

It sounds to me like you may have your DNS server improperly configured. Since you can ping the servers, you can get out to the Internet. You may have AIX (or your router's DHCP information) set to the wrong DNS server address.

To verify if this is just a Netscape bug, try http://216.239.59.104, which is the IP address of google.com.au. Alternatively you could try to ping google.com.au and see if you get a response from the above IP address.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Here are the results of your requested tests.
(1) Posting http://216.239.59.104 into browser address bar, it connects to the Google web site
(2) # ping google.com.au says site not found.
(3) # ping 216.239.59.104 gives no packet loss ie works well.
It would seem if I have the web sites IP address in the number format I can connect.
Not very savy on network items.
Here is the DHCP page of my Dlink router

" DHCP Server
DHCP Server Enable
IP Pool Starting Address 100
IP Pool Ending Address 199
Domain Name This is blank "

Here is the DDNS page of my Dlink router

"Dynamic DNS
DDNS Disable
Provider DynDNS.orgTZO.comdhs.org
Host Name This is blank
Username / E-mail This is blank
Password / Key This is blank "

Tried it with DDNS enabled but it made no difference.
Cannot understand why the above settings would be wrong as the following systems use this router on a P2P network XP W2K WinME W98SE W95 Win3.11 .
When I had Netscape 4.7.5 installed it worked okay. Had to uninstall 4.7.5 and install 4.8 when I upgraded AIX 4.3.3.0 to 4.3.3.11
Thanks for your time.

This is most definitely a problem with your DNS server, if you can connect to IP addresses but not their corresponding domain names.

I'm unaware of how AIX handles DHCP information, but there's a good chance that it's using DHCP to pull an IP address from the router but not a DNS server. I don't know how to properly remedy this, though. You might be able to set the DNS server manually, that is, set the server address in whatever you're using to configure your connection.

Good news Netscape 4.8 on AIX 4.3.3.11 is working.
All I had to do was in
smit/Communications/TCPIP/Minimum Configuration/en0
was fill in my ISP's name bigpong.com in the field of Nameserver/Domain Name.

Thanks Don_HH2K for pointing me in the right direction.
