Navigator 4.8 in linux

Postby russell_nash » Sat 09 Dec, 2006 9:46 am

I have installed the netscape 4.8 archive for linux hosted on this site. It recommends using the install.ns option to install it, so I did that and it seems to install ok. However I just can't get it to execute. I am using Ubuntu Edgy and am a new user to this OS. I don't generally have problems but it is of course unusual to be installing such a vintage piece of software. Any help would be appreciated. Doing a google and searching the often helpful Ubuntu forums hasn't yielded anything, probably because nobody bothers with such an old program.

Well in case anyone is interested in future, there is a problem whereby a dependency required for running Netscape doesn't exist in current versions of Ubuntu Linux.
