Upgrading Email from Netscape 4.79/4.80 to something newer

Postby grmoro » Wed 20 Dec, 2006 11:23 pm

Hello. I've been using Netscape 4.79/4.8 for the longest time because I always felt the email and composer (html) components were great. But it is not very stable in Windows 2000 and even less in Windows XP. What is the best method and choice to upgrade the Netscape version to and still have access to my email? I need to keep the addressbook, all email folders, and even the browser bookmarks. Would it be easier to migrate everything over to Microsoft Outlook (but not Outlook Express!)? Any suggestions and steps to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, and welcome to SD701 . . .

If you like using an internet application suite as Netscape 4.x was, I recommend you upgrade to SeaMonkey.

On the other hand, if you'd prefer to try seperate applications to handle your internet browsing and e-mail,
there's the Mozilla Firefox internet browser, and it's e-mail and newsgroups sibling, Mozilla Thunderbird.

SeaMonkey can be downloaded here. Go here for Mozilla Firefox, and here for Mozilla Thunderbird.
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061101 SeaMonkey/1.1b
SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
