Apple released iOS 4.3 Software Update for iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPod touch (4th and 3rd generations) today, ahead of iPad 2's release in US on 11th March.

iOS 4.3 brings a number of new or improved features including:
  • Personal Hotspot
  • iTunes Home Sharing
  • New AirPlay features
  • Faster Safari performance with Apple Nitro JavaScript engine
  • HD video out using the Apple Digital AV Adapter
  • Ping features
  • New settings, including allowing users to decide to lock screen rotation or mute audio on iPad side switch.

The update also address a number of security vulnerabilities, according to official security content of iOS 4.3 web page. The majority of the fixes are associated with v4.3, and in particular Safari and/or its underlying WebKit rendering engine; Apple remarks for example that in iOS 4.2.1, clearing cookies sometimes has no effect. The v4.3 update also copes with vulnerabilities in FreeType, TIFF images, libxml, Wi-Fi networking and the handling of IPv6 addresses.

System Requirements:
Personal Hotspot requires iPhone 4 with tethering data plan
New AirPlay features requires Apple TV (2nd generation) running software version 4.2 or later
HD Video out using the Apple Digital AV Adapter requires iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation)

iOS is compatible with:
iPhone 4 (GSM model)
iPhone 3GS
iPad
iPod touch (4th generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation)
