No MS-DOS Sound in current desktop PC set-up

Postby FrankoSport » Sun 29 May, 2011 1:41 am

Greetings and apologies ....

I erred when submitting my original post --- The PC speaker is -NOT- the issue.

I meant to say that I was not getting MS-DOS-generated sound. I am using Windows XP Home-SP3, and the Realtek sound card appears not to have support for DOS sound.

Will welcome any useful advice - thank you.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Can you hear the beep sound when booting up?

To use the sound card, the operating system (Windows I presume) must have the driver installed and use it for the sound output.

Make sure you did not turn the volume to mute. It is quite easy to hit the mute key by accident.

I believe that the virtual machine for DOS built into XP emulates a Sound Blaster, so if your DOS app isn't configured to output to a Sound Blaster on IRQ 5, it won't work.

You may also want to look into DOSBox if all else fails.

Updated Greeting --- May 31 2011

My motherboard has a PC speaker connection. This will be confirmed when the speaker is installed.
