anyone got a Kindle (device)?

Postby Antony » Wed 01 Jun, 2011 7:55 am

Anyone got a Kindle? I am referring to the proper Kindle device, not Kindle software/app available on iPad, iPhone and other platforms.

My question is, how good is it? Is it good for reading (long)? Navigating? And would you recommend getting one?

My wife and I have had Kindles for over a year now (Kindle 2) and we love them. They're not tablets like the ipad (by the way... we just got an ipad2 and love it as well). They're not tablet/e-readers like the Nook (although I understand that Amazon is coming out with something like that in the fall). They are what they are: e-readers that are simply the best bar none. The battery charge lasts us about a month "if" you read daily for about an hour. There is absolutely NO glare in the sunshine. We can read by poolside without any eye strain whatsoever. We have the 3G devices so we can download books from anywhere where there is cell service. In other words, we don't have to be in a WiFi hotspot. When we travel our Kindles go with us. When my wife goes to the gym, the Kindle is perfect since it remains open easily while she is no the treadmill. When I eat lunch at work I don't have to juggle with a book... my Kindle stays open. I LOVE it and when it dies I'll buy another one. I don't want color and I don't want multi-purpose tablets like the Nook. I want the Kindle since it is simply the best e-reader out there.

Thank you James.

Is the text on Kindle sharp? I haven't seen any Kindle in the stores here, only other ebook readers (everything but Kindle). Have you seen/used Sony's eBook reader? If so, what do you think about the Sony one? (Sony would be my first choice if I decide to get a non-Amazon one.)

Congratulations on the iPad 2, and welcome to iPad family.

When you have time to play the iPad 2, do you mind trying the iBooks (app on iPad/iPhone) for about 10 minutes? You can get the free Winnie-the-Pooh book, and probably you can also give us a comparison between the two. iBooks supports ePUB and PDF books/documents.
