Today the Ubuntu project released a major new shipping version, 10.04LTS, Lucid Lynx.

10.04 implements tons of new features, and it's a LTS version, meaning it has long term support for three years, as opposed to the standard eighteen months.

I plan on doing the online upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04LTS. Hopefully, I will not encounter any issues.

I usually use the BitTorrent download for the alternate version to upgrade. I find it to be a lot faster, especially on release days as BitTorrent is P2P so no worries about busy servers.

I've already updated my laptop and the other desktops are updating now. The downloads themselves took no more than 10 minutes on each. It's the remainder of the process that takes time (upgrading/removing, etc.)

On the laptop, there are no problems to report, the upgrade went through fine.

Glad to hear it Edward. I just got another laptop from a family member, and if I can fix it up I plan on installing Ubuntu 10.04 on it since I don't have a spare copy of Vista or 7.

Had a couple of issues with the 586 box and the 64-bit system, one package would not install on the 586 which was easily fixed upon a reboot. The 64-bit had major issues. Upgrade became stuck on one particular package which caused the system to pretty much freeze. I was able to manually reboot, chose the recovery mode and repaired the packages, which was an automated process. During which time, it installed the remainder of the new packages (as they had already been downloaded earlier in the process) and upon a reboot, it was on 10.04LTS.

Other than the new font used for the 'buntu series (on the initial splash screen?), the graphics and desktop background image otherwise did not change. There was no xubuntu-lucid desktop wallpaper included, perhaps the maintainers have not yet updated it.

While Ubuntu 10.04 is good, when Linux Mint 9 is released, it'll be better still, so I'll wait for that.

When I last tried it when it was in beta, the PPC version had a bug which caused video drawing to become unbearably slow. I hope that was fixed.

Well, been using it on and off for a little over a month now. Working great.

Decided to get a new intel wireless card, so that when I use Linux I can use an open source driver.

Anyone else tried out the new version?

Ubuntu 10.04 hits a long triple with the integration of social networking and the music store. I also can't believe it recognizes my ipod touch.Ubuntu is a full-featured Linux distribution for desktops, laptops, netbooks and servers, with a fast and easy installation and regular releases.

I like Ubuntu, however I think I've moved onto Linux Mint and Fedora now. I don't like the "Me Menu" in Ubuntu, or the loss of the Human theme.
