IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL

I have been receiving the above error message a number of times lately when trying to login to a web site and my Internet Explorer Browser shuts down.

Could someone please help me to understand whether the fault is located in my Internet Explorer program or in the MSVCRT.DLL file or both?

Also, I only have a very basic idea of .dll files but I have determined that this file appears in five of my Nero programs, a photo editing program and my Windows System Folder. What is the function of this file? Thanks in advance.

MSVCRT.DLL is the Microsoft C Runtime library.

Many applications compiled with the Microsoft Visual Studio C++ compiler will link to this file.

Now, it is possible that the version that is on your system has been modified and 'upgraded' to an older version so it could be this, but i'd say it is pretty unlikely (but you can run start > run > cmd then type sfc /scannow to check if there are any incorrect system files).

i'd say that this is more than likely a faulty extension in internet explorer causing the runtime library to crash. try disabling all your browser extensions (internet explorer > tools > manage add-ons > enable / disable add-ons. try disabling everything and see if the problem goes away.

you can then enable them one at a time to determine which extension is causing your trouble.

I remember that error when I had Win98, but, never saw it in XP. Some programs were very specific in saying that the only solution was to upgrade the OS, to, at least Win98SE.

Thanks for your interest guys,

I overlooked a couple of points in my original post:

I login to many Web sites - most of them with no problem but there's two that continually won't allow me to login and my browser shuts down.

I'm presently running Win98 SE and IE 5.5 so you may like to comment further Fulvio.

Any other ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Dr Lobster
I ran the scan but no errors showed up.
I don't have internet explorer > tools > manage add-ons in my Browser. (I'm running IE 5.5 on Win98 SE)
Thanks for your continued help in advance - got any other ideas?

Your User Agent displays Win98. May be the UA can't disctiminate between 98 and 98SE.
Otherwise, I have a Microsoft link.
If you do a Search, you can see that it is prevalent problem, but the Microsof support website link should help.
