I have a friend who updated her Outlook last week she can no longer receive email. She can send email out no problem.

Neither her or her husband can figure out what happened and he does have some experience with computers, email etc.

They have had to stop using Outlook due to this issue.

Can someone point me to any other forums that might have some answers for her?

thanks

I don't use Outlook, so I am not sure of the answer. If one does a search for "can't receive mail& outlook", you get a lot of hits. Some are for Outlook, others for Outlook Express.
I don't know if it makes a difference. I have this link which suggests that attachments may be involved. Is all mail inaccessible, or only HTML mail, or attachments?
I suggest sending a test message in plain text, beside looking at other links.

outlook and AVG

Postby cor » Thu 29 Jun, 2006 9:06 pm

I had a similar problem and stumbled on a solution. I am not very technical. If this works for you too reply to this forum and I will do a happy dance.
I used outlook express when I installed AVG. Later I switched to Microsoft Outlook so I could synch with a pocket PC. But periodically it would get stuck on send/receive.
Turns out AVG email scanner needs a particular plugin when microsoft outlook is the email scanner. see http://www.grisoft.com/doc/42/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
You can download it from the AVG site.
Seems to have solved my problem.
good luck.

Solution to Outlook not sending and receiving

Postby Markmck » Fri 12 Jan, 2007 8:49 am

Hi everyone,

I started reading this post after suffering the same problem, but pretty much knew the answer - it happened straight after an update from Microsoft. I rolled back a couple of days and solved the problem (for now anyway). I will try the update again in a few days and hopefully it will work properly.

Hope this helps

Mark

Further to my post above, I let Windows update again this morning and it worked without a problem. (I assume that the same updates were installed as it was just one day later)

Kind Regards

Hi Mark,

I've just encountered the same problem and it's driving me insane.... I'm a non-techie butcan usually muddle my way through. What do you mean by "roll back a couple of days" and how can I do this? I'm assuming you reset something?

Jon.

Me, too

I do tech support for a Florida govt agency, and one of my users had the same problem. It lasted for about three days and then "magically" fixed itself. We're on a Microsoft Exchange server, so I know it's not an ISP problem. It sounds like it could be related to Microsoft updates -- one update messed it up, and a later one fixed it. I can't really do any diagnosis, since it's working now, but if you're using a .PST file, you may want to check your default data file settings.

I'd like to hear from any others whose problem disappeared on its own; that could help narrow down the suspects.

Outlook send and receive

Postby Lmm0306 » Fri 29 Jan, 2010 10:14 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm one of you as well. I cannot send or receive from my outlook program on my computer but I can through my blackberry and through the internet. It's extremely frustrating. We have been dealing with it since December 15th, when our last email came through.
It's been great reading your posts because it gave me a few good ideas, but none worked. I'm still searching for the answers. I'll let you know when/if I get any.

Here's an idea, ditch Outlook. Even if it's more secure then Windows Live Mail/Windows Mail/Outlook Express it's still full of holes.

Download Thunderbird:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/

Or another free email client.

(I do use Outlook, but only for school email that requires features of 2007. Other than that I'm deeply integrated into the Gmail web app, and Thunderbird.
