lose 'overwrite' function in msn email

Postby helpless marty » Mon 02 Feb, 2009 12:53 pm

One of Word XPs more annoying features turns up from time to time when I compose messages in my msn email. Usually I can highlight a word I want to change, type the
replacement and continue. But on occasion, the letters in the words that follow disappear with each keystroke.

I have no idea what turns this function on in either Word or my email but in Word I can
double click the OVR at the bottom of the page which then "grays out" and the function ceases. I see no way to do that with msn.

I have attempted to contact them by email on this but I have an uneven history with
verizon/ msn's customer service email responses and it's too minor to spend much time on telephone hold with them so I'm hoping a reader can come up with a fix for this. Thanks!

Isn't this just a function of the 'Insert' key?
It toggles between insert (add new) and overwrite (replace).
Your mention of 'OVR' supports this.

Paul:

I never used the insert key before (never could figure out what it was for but never was curious enough to find out nor thought I had a need to know, either...my bad!) but what you write makes sense + next time this occurs, because it doesn't happen all the time, I'll give it a shot. Much appreciated!
