System Recovery with different hardware?

Postby Hashbrowniez » Wed 18 Feb, 2009 4:17 am

ok my computer was damn neared deystroyed by a nasty mal/virus that i could only get rid of by deleting it in safe mode when i did that ii was able to use the computer but i believe i destroyed the registry along with it somehow so i recovered windows back to its factory settings (out of the box) the thing is is that i have different hardware than the factory in it now and when i did that nothing wants to run right know and i cant restore back because i ran out of hardrive space..i have reinstalled the upgraded hardware (without removing them from the computer itself) but by just reinstalling the software that came with them.. but they are not running like they are supposed to or there completly bugged beyond repair...so i was wondering if i did a full system recovery if i would have to take out the new hardware thats in it now and replace it with the old hardware untill its recoverd and then take the old hardware back out and reinstall the newer hardware again or if i could just recover it with the newer hardware in it and jus reinstall the software and drivers....plz somone help i cant find anything on this subject anywere tried google etc...and even went back to the comp manual and cant find a damn thing about this....this is driving me INSANE!!!

I believe the System Recovery should be fine. If you rewind back to the dates before the installation of new hardware, you will most likely need to re-install the drivers for those hardware.

However, your system recovery may also recovery back the malware/virus/warms.

I would strongly recommend you to back up all your documents (including your photos, video clips, music... etc anything you created) to a back up media (e.g. CDs, DVDs, external HDDs, flash drives, or even network storage) before applying system recovery.

Although painful, but a clean reinstall of Windows may work better than System Recovery, if you have all you documents backed up.

i was just thinking about reformatting the hardrive (PRESSING F10 AT THE BOOT MENU) and reinstalling windows to start from a clean slate so that was my concern really if the new hardware would cause any problems if it was left in since it wasnt in there when it was factory.... the upgraded hardware that insnt factory i have in it is more ram,new gfx card, and new soundcard, i have backed up all the files i want to keep and have my recovery cds ready i just need to know if this was possible to do b4 i go ahead and reformat.... i greatly apprciate all the help
