Transferring address book to new computer

Postby whcarousel » Sat 18 Jul, 2009 4:55 pm

No one has been able to help me thus far. :( I have a new PC (Vista) and want to transfer my address book (Outlook 2003) from my old PC (XP) to the new one. I now have Outlook 2003 on both computers. Everything transferred to Outlook except my address book. Several suggestions have been given, but none have worked.

I am seeking help. :)

Your contacts should have migrated automatically along with the rest of your Outlook data, but here's a quick workaround anyway. It involves exporting the contacts from your old computer running XP and importing them on the new PC running Vista.

On the XP PC, open Outlook and go to File -> Import and Export. Choose "Export to a file" from the list, and hit Next. Choose "Comma separated values (Windows)" from the new list and hit Next. When asked what folder you want to export, select the one marked Contacts. Save the file onto a USB flash drive, CD, or somewhere else that the Vista PC will be able to use it.

On the Vista PC, open Outlook and go to File -> Import and Export. Choose "Import from another program or file" and hit Next, then choose "Comma separated values (Windows)" and hit Next again. Browse to the file you saved, then click Next to begin the export.

Address Book transfer

Postby whcarousel » Sat 18 Jul, 2009 6:40 pm

Thank you for the information. Would "contacts" be the exact same as "address book"?

On Monday I will have a second monitor to use with my old computer and then will be able to follow your instructions.

I will let you know how it works. Thank you again.

Address Book

Postby whcarousel » Sun 19 Jul, 2009 7:07 pm

Thank you so much. My address book names were transferred per your instructions. :D
Interestingly they were transferred through an Excel file.

The only two address book entries that did not transfer were two distribution lists of names. Is there any way to retrieve them?
