AVG9.0 is available

Postby Fulvio » Fri 23 Oct, 2009 2:13 pm

AVG9.0 is out, and 8.5 will not be supported soon.
Interestingly, I got the free version from CNET, but, I can't find a link using a Google Search.
It took forever and a half to download and install AVG9.0, but it seems ok.
One point, not noticed with 8.5, is that I was warned to uninstall my Zone Alarm Firewall as a possible conflict. I went ahead with the download. Also, I could not find the free version at the AVG website, and the installation recommended the installation the AVG toolbar, which I found to be a roundabout way to make Yahoo as default Search engine. I disabled the toolbar.

I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and removed AVG and Avast from their respective computers.

Also, I just ordered a new Dell Studio XPS9000 W7 with I7 four core hyperthreaded CPU and will install MSE on that machine.

Sounds like a great box you've got coming there, Richard. We'll be upgrading our desktops to Windows 7 next month when Lin's son arrives. He works for MS so he'll purchase copies for us and install them.

Continuing with AVG9.0, I must say that it is more efficient, taking, at least 15-20% less time to do an entire scan (65GB).
