Windows Media Player can be dispensable, up to a point

Yes,it is, and it is all DJGM's fault. I spent a lot of time on this since the warning of possible problem with an update top WMP.
I am able, now, to use Music Match, and it sounds a lot better than WMP, whjen using Netscape4.79, and on to Moz1.1b. Only 6.2.3 and Moz1.1b do not start the .asx files which had been of interest to me.
But, for some reason Opera does not even open the link at this site:
http://www.kut.org/ to choose the players(i.e. Listen). IE6 goes past it, but does not bring up the player.
According to MusicMatch, they claim that Netscape creates a block of sort by means of npnul32.dll. Essentially the file gets first crack at the extentions.
Well,I deleted every npnul32.dll file I could file, and the deleted the alleged Registry line, and, rebooted and everything is back to usual conditions.
AOLGecko is a bit different, because it plays the files in its embedded AOL Media Player.
I owe Ramona a full report, and disagreement to MMJB about the function of Npnul32.dll.

Fulvio, I am using Opera 6.03, and am listening to the KUT broadcast as I type. I selected RealPlayer, as I don't allow WMPlayer on the Internet. I'm wondering if perhaps you forgot to allow popup windows?

Replace the npnull32.dll files, but disable npaudio.dll and see what happens. I am still having success with MMJB autoplay on any MP3, asx, etc., file on the Internet.

Winamp and Zinf seem to be much better audio players.

Well, I prefer MusicMatch to WinAMP and Windows Media Player.

However, as I like QuickTime a lot, you can have your MP3 played by QuickTime 3 nicely. ("nicely" does not mean powered with features.)

The point is not which is the better player, or MP3. Some station stream in Real Audio,as well as Windows Media, and I found out that MusicMatch can replace Windows Media in all Netscape, but no IE-related browser. The npnul32.dll files were called as a troublemaker by the tech from MusicMatch.
Now, I spent little time in Opera6.04, but it behaves like IE.
By the way, KUT-FM streams also with Real Player, and it does fine that way.
I thought that I would report about this because I do not want to use Windows Media, and, for some reason, I do not have to crank the volume if I use WM files as much as with Real Player. Not one station could explain why.

Ramona,
you are correct. I really do not know enough about Opera Preferences.
I found out that I was disabling popups, and thus could not get anywhere when I clicked on "Listen". Opera works as well as Netscape. IE is still out, and, even after removing the plugin, and corresponding Registry key, I still can't play Music Match.

Fulvio,

When I bought my Dell, MMJB was preinstalled. It worked perfectly for a while, then I did an online update. From then on, it would no longer autoplay. I finally got it working again, but it took a lot of work, and a lot of trial and error Registry hacks. I finally succeeded! 8)

There were quite a few people on the Dell Forum that were having the same problem, and I was asked to write an article for an unofficial Dell help page. I listed all the changes that I made to the Registry to accomplish autoplay. I was thinking that you might compare your Registry settings to mine, and see what you find.

This is the Article: FINESSING AUTOPLAY FOR MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX

It might not help you at all, but then again, it might.
