Netscape pre-installation tweak - default browser check

Postby Rahan » Thu 03 Feb, 2011 7:11 pm

Hi folks!

I've been customizing Netscape 7.2 for a week now, and thanks to this forum and some valuable post on the topic I made a great advance.
The only thing I couldn't deal with is the default browser check Netscape is performing right after installation.
An alert box appears with the message "Netscape 7.2 is not currently set as your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?"

I tried to suppress it with user_pref("browser.wfe.ignore_def_check", true); in the user.js, but with no success. There has to be a way to disable that, but I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone help me with some wisdom?

It's been years since I last worked with Netscape, but I believe browser.wfe.ignore_def_check was an option for Netscape Navigator/Communicator. The corresponding pref for Mozilla Suite (and Netscape 7.2, which is a derivative of Mozilla Suite) is browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser.

Thanks for writing me.
user_pref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false); didn't work. The same message pops up.

Then I've tried the four possible combinations with both browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser and browser.wfe.ignore_def_check but again didn't succeeded.

Could it be some other user_pref or a setting in config.ini?

At the moment I don't have an active Netsape install but know that one of the labs here on campus still uses it - I'll see if I can run over sometime during the week to determine the correct pref string for you.
