Importing Netscape 7.1 mail into Opera M2 7.20 - No Go?

Postby Mantiss » Sat 11 Oct, 2003 8:37 pm

Hello all,

I'm trying to get rid of Netscape 7.1  (it hurts me to say so but I just cannot endure the issues) and I am trying to cross over to Opera (in an attempt to also weed out the usage I make of IE :P ).

To make a long story short, when I go to the import option for Mail it is supposed to present me with a choice of accounts. It finds none. I tried pointing it to all the prefs.js that I could find butto no avail.

Help?!

Am using: Netscape 7.1 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Netscape/7.1 (ax)

Thank you in advance ofor your help!

Hello Mantiss and welcome to Sillydog forums !

It is very easy to import mail from Netscape to Opera. In Opera File /Import choose Netscape. Than define the path to your mail folders from Netscape ( located in xxxxxxxx.slt folder), press import and that should do it.
Pls. note that in case your messages contains attachments it sometimes takes a long period of time to import them.
After import each of your Netscape folders (files) will be visible in:
1 - All messages
2 - View folder
3 - Messages with attachments are visible also in the Attachments view.
Before switching to Opera read this forum carefully, because Opera has indeed much disadvantages at the moment.

If you decide to go with Opera pls. set identifier to : Identify as Opera.

I had trouble importing bookmarks from Netscape into Opera. This, combined with the other problems I have had with version 7.20 (issue was reported in Opera newsgroup, as well as being submitted as a bug), I made the decision to uninstall it from my Windows PC.

7.11 worked fine, however the 711 directory has been removed from their FTP server for some reason, and the only 7.11 versions available now, are for languages other than English. I could download/install 7.10, but I'm not sure I want to bother with it.

Hello
i have exactly the same problem as Mantiss
And Your solution simply soesn't work, since opera doesn't know the extension of the file to import, and when i try to import the inbox of my netscape (as example) mail, it just returns to the main import window.
As if the file didn't contain the right info

It is very easy to import mail from Netscape to Opera. In Opera File /Import choose Netscape. Than define the path to your mail folders from Netscape ( located in xxxxxxxx.slt folder), press import and that should do it.

In my case the inbox is in c:programmi/netscape/users/kimboz/mail
but no file in that folder seem to work
how-to?

Hello Kimboz and welcome to Sillydog forums.

If You use W2000 your Netscape mail should be located in C: / Documents and settings / Your account / Aplication data / Mozilla / Profiles / Default ( or name of the profile, if created in Profile manager / xxxxx.slt / Mail / Account name. Appoint Opera there.

Hope that this helps.
