I want Sidebar not to be shown when I start Netscape 7.
How can I do it?

Easy. Hit F9 while in Netscape, the sidebar hides. You wont see it until you press F9 again.

But when I launch Netscape again Sidebar is shown.
Problem is I do not want to see Sidebar when I launch Netscape.

Odd. I just showed the sidebar in Mozilla, shut it down and reloaded it, and the sidebar showed as was expected. I then shut the sidebar, shut down Mozilla and restarted it. The sidebar was still hidden from last time, which is the correct behaviour. This should work . . . I also tried this same solution on the DJGM-I NS 7.01 distro, and the sidebar remained hidden until it was shown again, even after shutting the browser down. Go into the Preferences in Navigator and make sure that the sidebar isn't set to open when there are search results avaliable. If that doesn't work, then hopefully someone else will ahve the answer.

With Netscape 7.0 (Mozilla/5.0) does not work in that way. I have the same problem. I am working on Unix version.

I never tried F9, but it should work the same way as my hard way, but more visible way, which is to uncheck the View|Show\Hide|My Sidebar line or from Edit|Preferences|Navigator| uncheck My Sidebar box. There have been cases when your build is either testing you or something is stuck.
It happened to me with the Radio button. I had to cycle off and on fives times, but I never had the problem again.

F9 works well. Problem is when Netscape is launched, Sidebar Tab always is shown (not hidden how I want).

It may be a Unix thing. I know that the Mac version of NS7 has some idiosyncrasies all its own. So, this could be true of Unix.

Go to your task bar and slide your mouse arrow over the tab that says "open my sidebar" and then click on it. If you close NS with the sidebar closed after doing it that way, it will stay off.

I can not see any tab that says "open my sidebar".

It is located in the task bar with your mail icon, home icon and other bookmarks. If you do not see it, there should be a bar with an arrow on it that is elongated. Click on that the arrow will point up and your mail, home and OPEN MY SIDEBAR tab should be there.

NS 7.01 from SillyDog seems to remember the sidebar state when it exits.

I just opened the sidebar (by clicking the 'My Sidebar' button on the personal toolbar) and exited. The sidebar displayed when I reopened NS. I closed the sidebar (by clicking its 'X' target) and closed NS. The sidebar did not display when I reopened NS.

I couldn't find anything in the preferences that would appear to over-ride this. Try searching for 'sidebar' in the user.js and prefs.js file. Maybe there's an initializer in there that you could delete.

Maybe Nescape 7.0 for Unix is different because there is not user.js file.
I have not found "sidebar" string in "pref.js" file.

I have had the same problem with my side bar and the settings for my e-mails also.. I used a free site: http://www.macosx.com. My operating system, Apple G4 OS X version 10.3.9, Netscape 7.2. Here is what those awesome people at Mac osx had me do and it WORKED!!!
1. Turn computer off
2. Press the power button to start the computer.
3. Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and the "s" key for single-user mode.
4. At the command-line prompt, type: /sbin/fsck- y
5. Press Return.

The fsck utility will go through five "phases" then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume (name of volume) appears to be OK."

Note: If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command until it no longer appears. It's OK if you need to do several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues.

When fsck reports that, "** The volume (name of volume) appears to be OK.",
6. type: reboot
7. Press Return.

When I opened my browser up the side bar came up but I clicked on the X, to close it and made the changes to my email settings and ever since when ever I turn on my computer, those settings are saved.. They are now my favorite FREE site on the web... Rob :mac:
