Can't find a document

I have a Sony Digital Studio with XP and Office 97 installed.
Why is it that after I have typed up an article and saved it -- it does "not" show up in my files,and I cannot find it ? Also -- do I have to do a different search to find documents in my Wordpad ?

first location (the default saving location): My Documents.

Otherwise, try to create an article and save it, note down the folder (directory). So you'll know which folder they use.
