Its easy to post like a "spelling Bee" winner. Just follow these easy steps.

1. Fill out the Reply Box as you normally would.

2. Right click in the Reply Box and choose Select All. Right Click again and choose Copy (or Cut, if you prefer).

3. Open up the text-editor or word-processor of your choice. It must have a spell checker.

4. Right click in your text-editor or word processor, and choose Paste.

5. Do a spell check on your writing.

6. If errors are found, correct them. Cut and Paste the text back into the Reply Box at SillyDog. If no errors are found or when finished posting, close the text-editor or word processor.

7. Back at the Reply Box, choose Preview and review you golden nuggets of wisdom.

8. Make any last changes in the Reply Box, and then click on Submit.

I use a versatile, free text-editor called NotesPad (note the "s" at the end of "Note") which comes with a rudimentary spell checker. I compose really long posts in NotesPad first, spell check and correct them, then copy and paste into the Reply Box.

If you have a Safari, you have a spell checker built in.


I am not sure if there are any equivalent features in Mozilla.

Mozilla does indeed have a spellchecker, with current and recent versions of the Mozilla App-Suite.

Way back when , in my respecitve classes, I won the spelling bees in 1st, 4th, and 6th grades. In 1st grade, I received a book for a prize, titled Robinson Crusoe, which I believe I still have somewhere, but the teachers in the 4th and 6th grades were too cheap, no prizes.

You would have to open the E-mail portion of Mozilla and compose your post in an E-mail. You then spell check the text, cut and paste it in the "reply" box, and exit the unsent E-mail without saving.

[My E-mail composition is set to only send plain text. I'm not sure if the HTML E-mail composition would change this procedure.]

It seems that Safari can check spelling while you type your message at the forum, but in Mozilla this needs to be done manually, in Composer.

When I had windows 98, I tried using Word to write pre-spell checked replys then pasted them into the SillyDog reply box. Strangely enough, when I pasted them, apostrophes turned into upside down question marks.
When I got Windows XP, I thought it would not happen again, but it did. It happens not just when I paste to SillyDog, but also when I paste to other sites.
I realize that your solution is different, in that you compose the initial piece on the S/D site then cut/copy paste it to Word or email, then back, but I still would like to know the reason why the question mark anormally occurs, and if it can be corrected. Any suggestions? I have not tried composing and pasting from email, only from Word.

Actually, I never use Word to spell check my posts. I use a fancy text editor called NotesPad, although you can use Mozilla's E-mail composition window.

I might speculate that Word's text is introducing codes that translate differently in text boxes. OTOH, I just pasted some text from Word 2000 into this reply box, and it looks fine. Perhaps it is a font problem? Hmmmm. I'll think about this, but my luck with font/display problems is not good.

If I download NotesPad, will Note Pad remain on my machine or will Notes Pad replace it? Presently, I'm working on two books in Word. Do you think NotesPad will help in that regard. Word often alters fonts and paragraphs without explanation and justified text contains unsightly spaces that I am unable to correct. I don't suppose Notes Pad or anything else will have much effect on that, huh?

NotesPad will never erase NotePad from your system even if you do replace its function with NotesPad. You may simply install NotesPad as another program on your system. You are then free to do whatever you wish with the original, anemic NotePad.

NotesPad will not properly display most word processor files, so it can never be used in conjunction with a word processor. NotesPad is just a fancy text editor, and, as such, would probably not be suitable for crafting a book. I use it to manipulate and spell check text-only files and batch files. It appears to add no extra codes that sometimes messes up text-only files.

NotesPad was last developed back in, perhaps, the days of Windows 98, but I have had no trouble with it in under Windows 2000. (I think I have it on my XP system, but I'm not sure about that at this moment.) I usually try to make my setup so that NotesPad does replace NotePad because NotesPad is far superior to NotePad.

NotesPad is available at Newbie.net, but there are several text editors (free or shareware) out on the market.

Everytime I download anything connected with Java, or Quicktime, my machine goes haywire. This includes my old Gateway 98 and my new HP XP machine as well. Burned several times now, I keep away from them.
