Loss of message when using truncated messages NS 7.1

Postby skyguy » Wed 07 Jan, 2004 3:53 pm

I just set up 7.1 on my new XP machine and checked the box for truncating email messages beyond a certain size so I just download the header info. When I get the truncated header message and click on the "here" to download the rest of the message, the message disappears, and my inbox count decreases by one! I don't know where it went or how to look for it.
It's not in any of the other mail folders or profiles on my machine.
Anyone with any clues to this problem?
When I choose to download the entire message without truncating it, the mail downloads normally.

skyguy,

I tried to replicate your problem... so far I can not.....

I sent myself a 450+kb email....

Reveived same showing a file size of 1kb

opened it and get the "truncated alert"

selected "here" and d/l full msg - file size in inbox changed from 1kb to 465kb....

file remained in the inbox

I am useing Win98se - NS 7.1(compact) - same results with Moz 1.5

perhaps someone running XP can give it a go - and see if they can replicate it.

Hi skyguy,

I report the same results as captjlddavis. I have set the option to 100 KB, and have sent myself 4 different test mails differing from 400 KB to 1+ MB. I cannot duplicate your problem. I run Windows 98SE, Netscape 7.1, and Mozilla 1.6b, give the same results.

I did find one Newsgroup post which may, or may not give you a fix:
Netscape 7.1 truncated mail doesn't load, and more

If this doesn't work, you may have to:
Create a New Profile.

loss of truncated email

Ramona and Capt. Davis,
Thanks for the input. I went back and read the thread Romana provided. Will have to see where that leads. One thing though, this feature worked fine on my Win98se machine too, and only got wierd on installing it on my new XP machine. Don't know if it's unique to XP so I hope to hear from some XP users/programmers. Thank you.
