Installing KOffice on SuSE 9

Postby Edward » Sat 14 Feb, 2004 8:18 pm

Has anyone been successful installing KOffice under SuSE 9? I attempted to install this as root via YaST, but it was marked "do not install", and I could not change that designation. I then downloaded the RPM file from the KDE web site, and when that attempted to install, it required libraries that were not available.

Does KOffice perhaps not work with SuSE 9? I was able to install it under 8.2 though.

FWIW, OpenOffice.Org 1.1.0 (Windows version) wants to connect to the Internet each time I launch it. It's now blocked at the firewall, but do not know if the Linux version does the same.

Did you have KDE installed properly for your SuSE 9?

Why would OpenOffice.org want to connect to internet each time?

KDE installed successfully without error.

As to why OOo 1.1 (Windows) wants to connect to the Internet each time it's launched, I haven't a clue. The MD5 checksum on the download matched the information on the OOo web site, so I know the file was not compromised during the download, and the system remains virus-free.

Do you have the option something like check for latest version each time selected in your OpenOffice.org?

I did not see such an option under Tools/Options. I also checked the OOo web site, and could not find anything there related to the issue.
