and iMac, in all of the operating system and browser combinations that I've installed on
them. All other websites that I regularly access every day, have been coming through,
with no particular problems whatsoever.
Earlier Tonight, for what it was worth, I phoned up the technical support helpline of
my ISP (ntl:home broadband) to see if they could shed some light on this. The tech
support rep I spoke to, asked me to set up a proxy URL configuration in both Mozilla
and IE, instead of using the usual direct connection settings.
Lo and behold, this worked, and I can now once again access all publicly available
areas of the MozillaZine website. What followed, was a stream of misleading FUD!
He then asked why I prefer to use Mozilla over IE. I said it was due to security reasons,
and the fact that IE contains numerous security holes. This is where the tech support
rep then informed me, and I quote, "Mozilla is the most unsecure browser around."
and, "I can easily access everything on your PC while you're using Mozilla."
He claimed he could do this, because he said he's "a programmer by trade". Obviously, I
had to refute these ridiculous claims, by saying that IE is absolutely the worst browser
with regards to security, and that all current and recent versions of Mozilla, contain
no known security holes, and in particular, the sort of security holes that enable
outside sources to gain unauthorised access to the contents of the hard drive.
He then went on to claim that the layout engine in Apple's Safari browser, is developed
by Microsoft! Which is (IMO at least) total and utter bull****, so I had to refute this,
by pointing out that the Safari engine is actually based upon the Konqueror KHTML
engine from KDE, and that no part of it was written or developed by Microsoft.
Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, so I can't make a complaint against him, for
such blatant "FUD slinging". I only hope now, that he hasn't been telling this highly
misleading, and 100% false information to any other ntl:home internet customers.
