I wish I could be more hopeful about this effort. However, I read somewere that online petitions rarely work. I'll post the link.

Judging by the news we've received early today, it seems this petition has been a success . . . !

AOL Petition

Postby Falcon99NE » Fri 09 Apr, 2004 12:03 am

thanks Ramona for the oppotunity.
Based upon my ill - fated, fitful, consternating dealings with AOL from several years ago, sure hope they read, listen, respond favorably.

I glanced through the petition, I didn't see my name but then I might have missed it.
Anyway, I will sign again, and I really don't know why I didn't sign it earlier......Good luck

SaveNetscape

Postby goGecko » Thu 15 Jul, 2004 6:22 pm

I signed the petition as well and I credit it with the forthcoming Netscape 7.2 Release. The first source to announce Netscape 7.2 was Fernando Casseria's article in the National Enquierer. I just wanted to thank him and everyone else who signed the petition for helping to restore Netscape - my favorite browser.

Might I ask where you got your copy of Netscape 7.1? The Gecko build data in your useragent is different that the original release.

My UserAgent

Postby goGecko » Mon 19 Jul, 2004 6:47 pm

My copy of Netscape 7.1 was originally downloaded from the Netscape website. However, I am a very good programmer and I applied the resource fix in Mozilla 1.4.1 to my copy of netscape 7. I did NOT reverse-compile my copy of Netscape 7.1 to accomplish this. I selectively replaced the Netscape 7.1 caching files in the Gecko Runtime Engine (GRE) with new files from Mozilla 1.4.1. Note that October 2003 is the release date of Mozilla 1.4.1. I did not intentionally change the userAgent, but apparently my editing accidentally disrupted the original userAgent. If it really upsets people, I could look up what file controls the userAgent and change it back. (Maybe there is even an about:config command that I could apply.)
