Messenger

Postby Justin » Thu 18 Jul, 2002 2:30 pm

I am wondering if there is a way to disable Messenger in Netscape communicator 4.7x? I am currently installing it on some pc's for a high school and they don't want that feature active so the student's can mess around with it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Justin

4.7? Well...okay...

If you're installing Communicator, can't you select not to install Messenger? If not, I'm sure Communicator can be tweaked to your liking...

This is an ugly way to do it, but it works.

AFTER installing Communicator, install a standalone version of AIM. It will pickup from the windows registry the path under the Netscape directory and install there, overwriting the install that came with Netscape. Then UNinstall AIM from the control panel's add/remove programs.

Or alternatively, you can just manually delete the directory under the Netscape directory that contains the AIM program. However this won't take care of registry issues and such.

Sorry, but somebody does not get it. The original question seems to refer to the Netscape e-mail part of the program. How would AIM affect?

Ugh! Ignore me, I had a brain spasm :(

I saw "messenger" and for some reason it just clicked in me to think "AOL Instant Messenger". I've been using Mozilla for so long and have become used to referring to that portion as "mail/news".

Please forgive me for my stupidity on this...it happens from time to time.

Thanks all who replied to my post. Yes I was looking to disable the Messenger mail portion. I finally ended up convincing the teacher to use the stand alone version of Netscape 6.2.
