netscape "unable to write email to the mailbox"

Postby slaird » Fri 16 Jul, 2004 8:59 pm

I am running 7.1 with Windows 98. I got the above message today and am unable to download any messages. When I click on the messages already in my inbox, they open, but there is nothing there. I have compacted all the folders, rebooted x2, etc. I was able to download all messages with OExpress, and I could see them on webmail as well, but netscape just isn't working! Any suggestions?

You have some of the things correctly, but you did not list deleting the Inbox.msf file from your account folder. You may, very well have a corrupted header file. C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\random.slt\Mail
and, then of course your mail account|Inbox.msf
Do this with Netscape closed.

lost netscape inbox

Postby slaird » Mon 19 Jul, 2004 9:33 pm

thanks for your reply.

I had already done that (deleted msf), numerous times. I have deleted all the msf files for all the folders.

Now the only messages listed in my inbox are the four that I downloaded yesterday. I can open them all, but all my old messages are gone.

there is a file in mymailaccoiunt folder named Inbox which is 11000 kb in size. it is not an msf file. would this be my old messages? Can I get it into the current inbox file?

i'm stumped. thanks for our help

Don't try, just rename the old file.
Now you are not making thing easy by not telling everything. There is no way that you can have two Inbox files in the same folder, so you must have one large one in myaccountfolder, and a small one( current) in myaccountfolder-1. If you copy the old file, and paste it in the -1 account, you will overwrite the new mail. If you rename the old Inbox, and then copy, and paste it into the -1 account, you will have the old mail, and it will form a new .msf file, if you do this with Netscape closed.
So, you must have a bit more than deleting the .msf files.
I hope that we will get it this time. Remember: right-click on the icon| copy, and right click|paste. In the case of the renaming, it is safer to right-click|Copy the old Inbox, and then rename it, prior to right=click|Copy to get it into the new folder.
