A low key but partial return for Club Netscape!

Postby DJGM » Tue 18 May, 2004 2:07 pm

Since the recent news of AOL in some way resuming Netscape browser development, I have
partially re-opened Club Netscape, with links to this message board and most importantly,
the "AOL: New Netscape 7.x coming shocker!" thread in the Netscape/Mozilla forum.

However, this does not mean that Club Netscape is returning on a full time basis, unless
the beancounters over at AOL intend to resume all Netscape browser development on a
full time basis, and also release an updated version of the Netscape CCK application.

It is most likely that Club Netscape, will be replaced by an "about:browsers" section
when my website, DJGM On-Line is fully relaunched, sometime during the summer.

Bear in mind, the future of Club Netscape is now effectively based on AOL's long term plans
for development of both the Netscape browser suite, and also the Client Customisation Kit.

Essentially, if no further Netscape browser releases are planned, after the forthcoming
version 7.2, and there's no CCK to accompany Netscape 7.2, then Club NS is history!

. . . so let's just hope it's permanent!

Thanks. I've just updated the image. Now the word "RETURNS!" is in a more Netscape like font.

DJGM, now that 7.2 has actually been released, do you have any plans for Club NS?

As I said earlier, it depends on AOL long term plans for Netscape.

 If there are no more Netscape browser releases beyond 7.2 . . .

and/or

 There are no more CCK's released for customising Netscape 7.x

. . . then Club Netscape is . . . history . . . the end . . . finito . . . kaput . . . end of . . .

Hi,
How about if the browser is only updated only once a year?
What will be the desicion then?
We will like to know all possible outcomes.

While I concede that the DJGM-i Netscape distributions were some of the most fundamental elements of the old Club Netscape's content, Club Netscape had other worthwhile content as well such as links, a sidebar tab, and the occasional poll. Have you considered restoring such content to the current rudimentary Club Netscape website, or the upcoming "about:browsers" section of DJGM On-Line?
