MozillaZine is reporting, "Firefox 1.0 RC 2 Released"

The Mozilla Foundation today has released the second release candidate for Firefox 1.0 which can be found on their FTP server. The Firefox developers please ask that you look at the following areas: site authentication (especially over SSL), extension installation via update.mozilla.org and other sites, MacOS X builds, and software update - "we're making another attempt at this. We think we've got the bugs from RC1, so please test by following these instructions." Please report any problems you find in Bugzilla. Along with English builds, a number of localizations are also available for testing. More information on what looks to be the final RC before 1.0 can be found on Ben's weblog.

So far, so good. But, I am using ( or better abusing) a 1.8a5 nightly, with a formerly NS7.02 profile and Walnut theme. Not bad at all!

In terms of features and major changes over Mozilla Firefox 1.0 PR, Firefox 1.0 Release Candidate 2 is very similar to the earlier Release Candidate 1 apart from bug fixes and the like, although there has been other substantial development as well. I find it interesting, though, in that the Gecko revision indicator in the user agent string is now "1.7.5." What happened to 1.7.4?

I also find that interesting that the Gecko version has been bumped from 1.7.3 to 1.7.5, in Firefox, skipping 1.7.4. The latest Mozilla Suite nightly, (20041103,) also has been bumped to version 1.7.5 from 1.7.4. Maybe Mozilla 1.7.4 will be released soon, and development has started on Mozilla 1.7.5. Just a thought...

Firefox 1.0 RC 2 feedback

Postby Antony » Fri 05 Nov, 2004 10:35 am

My quick Firefox 1.0 RC2 feedback.

The mysterious [sdt=6349]Hidden window[/sdt] revealed under Apple OS X :panther: Panther's Exposé has been disappeared as Andrew T reported in [sdt=7416]Firefox 1.0 RC1[/sdt] thread.
Sadly it still does not comply Apple Human Interface Guidelines (HIG), as I mentioned in [sdt=7069]Firefox 1.0 PR[/sdt], [sdt=6201]Firefox 0.9.1[/sdt], [sdt=6018]Firefox 0.9[/sdt], [sdt=7069]Mozilla 1.7.3[/sdt], and [sdt=5625]Mozilla 1.4.2[/sdt] threads.

And the [sdt=6884]Java Tab Vulnerability[/sdt] issue still exists.

Where is everyone getting the Mozilla 1.7.5 suite?? The web site as of this morning, still offers a download of 1.7.3. Not even the Releases page lists 1.7.5.

Mozilla Suite 1.7.5 is currently a nightly build. It is avalable from ftp.mozilla.org. Only download it if you are confortable with testing nigthly builds.

I downloaded what I thought was 1.7.5, it turned out to be 1.8 Alpha 5. Works OK though.

The only other nightly build I tried was 1.6 for Linux some months back, I noticed the menu headers were not perfectly straight, some text was higher/lower than others.

It turns out that 1.8 Alpha 5 fixes a bug in Firefox 1.0 RC2 and Mozilla 1.7.3 that I reported earlier today. The bug report was amended accordingly.
