I know that the final theme will be different. However, I was hoping that they would include both themes. The current one and the new final one.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

New design

Postby PW » Sat 01 Jan, 2005 5:16 am

Hi to everyone and have a wonderfull year 2005 despite the circumstances. I have a question this new "blue" design is a new version of the prototype, only a new version of the skin and was it made by Mercurial or by some user or what? And when its a new version could be one of you lucky who is member of the beta testing programme give me a link, hint or maybe directly the file. But please dont post it here as the webmaster takes this EULA, legal stuff too serious and will delete the link maybe sooner than I can read it (really silly in my eyes :-)

That skin was made by AOL/That Canadian Company. Sorry, Antony won't allow it, but I did get a zipped build of the prototype, but I'm not telling where since it's a secret. the EULA has to be taken seriously

Here's the problem with the Netscape EULA: it bans direct linking under Paragraph 2 Section 6. That means I can tell you to go search for (removed, please see footnote) on an FTP search engine without getting in trouble.

Maybe Netscape should take the hint now and make an EULA version 1.1, that addresses this problem and says you can't provide the filename anymore.

EDIT -- Wait, yes it is against the EULA (Paragraph 2 Section 8)... Please delete this.

as I feared

Postby PW » Sat 01 Jan, 2005 3:56 pm

So as I feared also this was removed, so please send it to my mail adress weisenbacher@virt.cz or if sending the whole file peterweisenbach@netscape.net. Thanx much, I am just curious I am not going to use it for development of weapons of mass destruction.

I probably forgot to tell that I have this first green prototype, nicknamed green monster in Germany :-)

To my understanding, the blue theme prototype was not released testers (yet). It was a new design idea, as too many complaints about the original theme.

Problem with Tabs.

Postby Fulvio » Mon 03 Jan, 2005 12:55 am

It seems that a large number of people got so hung up on the Themes that other problems are not considered as important. My apologies if my question was already answered.
My problems deals with Tabs. Tabs' setting in this mongrel are different from what I usually see in any other Mozilla product. I am using several Tabs, and if I need to open another window, and do not want to disturb the present one, I open a new Tab, or open a present unused Tab, and open the Window in it. So, I can easily go back and forth, if needed.
This is not happening in the Netscape Browser. If I select File|New Tab, I am getting a copy of the present one with no text. In fact, I can never open a new bookmark. My settings for Tab browsing should not matter too much in the top, but the rest are set to overwrite present tab, but this never happens.
In fact, it does not matter what I do, Tabs may open just to the right or the far right, or left. And, often I have to hunt for them. All I want to do is topen a window when I select a bookmark, or a link, or type an address.
I posted about this, and either my problem is strictly my own, or I am doing something wrong, or my descriptions are incomprehensible.
Could someone help?

New Prototype - based on Firefox 1.0

Postby Joji » Mon 03 Jan, 2005 11:16 pm

FYI

The Netscape Product Team posted on the tester forum that new prototype based on FF 1.0 will be released for testers later this week.

There won't be any new features or new design in this release, but performance and size have been greatly improved.

Re: Problem with Tabs

Postby Roy » Tue 04 Jan, 2005 1:15 pm

The biggest "problem" with the new "Netscape Tab Browsing Options" is that they gave us too many options; maybe just because it is a prototype version. It's hard to set up the options for one's own personal preferences because there are SO many. Once one starts trying to set these, it can get out of control and do unexepected things.

For those that don't have access to the new browser, here are the options provided:

Tab browsing

When a new tab is created open with:
Blank tab
Current tab
Home page tab(s)

Open a new tab to the:
left of current tab
right of current tab
far left
far right

When a tab is closed, focus to:
left
right
last selected

Open Behaviour

New address:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Local file:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

History:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Bookmarks:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Link in page:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Home page(s):
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Search bar result:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Personal Toolbar button:
overwrite existing tab
add new tab

Here's hoping that since NSB Prototype 2 is to be built upon Firefox 1.0, it supports themes made for Firefox 1.0,
so it'll be possible to eradicate that nasty horrible mess of a default theme, with something easier on the eye!

Cosmetic issues aside, at least they'll be giving the next protoype build a more stable base to work from.

In NSB Proto 2 there will be no changes in theme, only codebase from Firefox 1.0, improved stability, redused package size etc.
The File menu will be probably kept on the right side of the screen?

I care little about appearances, as long as that mongrel does what I would like it to do. Like Roy, I was completely overwhelmed by the Tabs (out of) Controls.
No matter what I do, a new Tab is opened. I was pretty sure, a couple of times, that something was wrong when a page would not come up. Then, I had a couple of new tabs. My settings are to overwrite existing tab, accross the board. It does anything but that.
They better fixed it or explain it.
