Well, there's an empty /cb131 folder in /pub/netscape on Netscape's FTP server, modified on 1/31/05. Does anybody think it's in there, waiting for somebody to stumble across it early?
I can't get anything in it, it's all hidden. I've tried /windows, /win32, and the previous /win32_jgksyc for Netscape Browsers before this one, to no avail.

Bugs delay AOL Netscape beta

Postby Joji » Thu 17 Feb, 2005 9:55 am

FYI
America Online (AOL) is delaying the release of the first public test version of a new Netscape Web browser until the end of the month to fix some last-minute bugs, the company said Wednesday.

I hope that I will get a way to access the download site. For the latest trick the Prototype 2, once again does not let me into the newgroup. I cannot even sign on. And, of course, everything is the way it should.
I have accessed the newsgroup from NS7.2. No problem here.
They say that date of delivery has been put off, because of technical problems. This is a sick puppy!

Pre Beta available for download

Postby nscpprod » Thu 17 Feb, 2005 4:45 pm

Available at http://community.netscape.com/nscpbrowser

Hi everyone,

As you may have read, the general public beta has been pushed back a couple of weeks due to some bugs which we aren't yet comfortable with the general public experiencing. However, we appreciate everyone's help from the prototype to now, so we would like to give you guys a preview of what we will be releasing to the masses soon. Enjoy!

Has anyone tried the new Netscape "Pre-Beta" out yet?

Does the installer still utilize unbypassable OS-version and RAM-amount checks?

Posting to wrong thread, sorry, a little more sleeping :( :

Maybe they want include as many security fixes as possible to a new version 8 too. Sounds good.

According to http://secunia.com/product/85/ :

Secunia wrote:
Netscape 7.x with all vendor patches installed and all vendor workarounds applied, is currently affected by one or more Secunia advisories rated Highly critical.

Including older ones, naturally, but all discovered after 7.2 release are important.

Thanks for providing the release notes, Alice.

It may be good to review the list of "Critical and Major Defects" before trying the browser out, to know what bugs to expect. This is still pre-beta software, after all.

I notice that Windows NT 4.0 is no longer listed as being a "supported" platform. Earlier prototypes had installers that were rigged to balk at installing on Windows NT 4.0, so I wonder why they had mentioned the platform as being supported in the original FAQ to begin with.

Do they mean this: install first, and uninstall later?

"Once you have downloaded the Netscape Browser installer, follow these instructions to install:
Windows

Double click NSbrowserSetup-Full-Feb17-0200-0.9.4.exe to start the install.

Uninstalling Netscape Browser

To uninstall Netscape Browser, follow these instructions:
Windows

Use the uninstaller provided by going to Start->Programs->Netscape Browser Profile Folder"
