[rumour] Apple's Tiger finally goes "gold" . . .

Postby DJGM » Fri 01 Apr, 2005 3:57 pm

According to reports, the latest candidate build of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger has been finalized and declared "gold master". It is
likely to be released later this month. This has been reported by BetaNews, AppleInsider, ThinkSecret and TheInquirer.
Eitherway, despite the news being reported by number of IT news sites, until Apple make an official announcement
the news should still be effectively considered as "rumour". Here's part of the report published on AppleInsider.

According to sources, Apple earlier today declared build 8A428 of Tiger 'gold master,' the final development
stage. Companies typically release the 'GM' candidate to manfuacturing for duplication and packaging.

Earlier this week, Apple release a "FC" (final candidate) build to developers and other partners
to test the operating system for any last minute "showstoppers." The build reportedly still had
a few outstanding issues, but those were not expected to delay Tiger's release. They are
expected to be fixed in the next free (downloadable) update to the operating system.

I noticed that AppleInsider's report of the news was posted on Slashdot last night. I refrained from posting it here until I saw that the news was substantiatied by multiple sources.

Just to add some spice.

AppleTalk Australia predicts Tiger's release date is 1st May, and will be announced on 12th April.

Please note that AppleTalke Australia has not been accurate on predicting iTunes Music Store (Australia) in a number of occasions.
