Porting Qute to Netscape 8

Postby burnerO » Thu 19 May, 2005 11:28 pm

I've taken it upon myself to get at least a minimal version of Qute working on Netscape 8 via a Winscape edit. Having not skinned Firefox before, this is a slow/steady process which will be a work in progress until I'm happy with it. I wouldn't be posting this so early, but I'm going to be gone for the weekend and would like feedback in the meantime.

To install (for now), rename chrome/winscape.jar to winscape.bak and save this to as chrome/winscape.jar:

http://consolevision.com/members/burner ... nscape.jar

Be sure to cut me some slack as a newbie skinner.

Here's a proper version of the theme above (can be installed normally):

I haven't made a proper theme yet, because it's just an edit of the existing one until I get everything sorted.

In your netscape installation directory is a folder called chrome which contains a file called "winscape.jar" Rename it to winscape.bak to back it up and save this in its place.

Oh, and I could certainly use help if anyone is knowledgable about theming.

Thanks. Just added. The Qute looks good on Netscape 8.0.1.

I have to say that I haven't used Qute theme before. (Been using our beloved Safari.)

It is better than the default Winscape Theme.
(more feedback later)

No new changes yet aside from it being installable from the theme manager.

This is for Burner0. I read your post about using the qute theme for netscape. I'm really impressed. You said you were interested in making it a real theme instead of using it by replacing the default winscape theme. I thought this link might help you with that. The link is http://kb.mozillazine.org/Dev_:_Themes. Its for making themes for mozilla but can also be used for netscape/

Good Luck
