Well, so much for that, my processor is too slow and I only meet the minimum for the graphics card.

It appears that this is 'Version 7.0.2.38', I was not aware that 7.0.2 had been released yet.


It appears that this version does not include iTunes either.

The interface hasn't changed much since QT6, and still looks out-of-place among Luna/Royale. It looks a lot more fitting, though, with the Longhorn 5048 theme.

This version works through RealPlayer 10's shell as well.

I did notice something wierd with the video quality, though. On most (but not all) movies, I get a lot of distortion, that kind of looks like a videotape recording.



There is now an icon set that includes 48x48 icons, for if you use either the Tiles or Thumbnails/Filmstrip options within Windows Explorer. They've also fixed a transparency issue with the taskbar icon, which eliminates a grey surrounding to the QuickTime logo that should have been a shadow.

Meanwhile, PictureViewer still hasn't changed much since version 2 for the Windows 3.1 QuickTime.

It looks that way. I guess Apple has now totally dropped support for older Windows versions all together.

If you are not into the stunning H.264, you don't need that high end machines.

H.264 playback in Mac also requires much powerful machines.

Actually, those two videos look perfect on this machine, absolutely no compression cubes, no blurriness, you get the picture.

And to let everyone know, it works at 1.4GHz.

But that's with the High Definition video you need a 1.8Ghz processor Normal movies shouldn't require that level of hardware.

This morning I watched part of the WWDC 2005 with Quicktime 6.5.2, then when Steve Jobs mentioned a QT7 preview for Windows, I went and installed it and then resumed watching the WWDC. The quality increase of the stream was immense, thanks to that new H.264 codec they're using. This is one excellent piece of software, even in it's beta stages on Windows.

The View Info has changed quite a bit.

Interesting glitch in QT7 I've just found, playing Antony's QuickTime codec comparison. Try resizing a playing H.264 movie larger, works fine. Make it smaller, and it will continue to play fine, but with this border of the video until you un-click:

Thanks for reporting Don, this behaviour does not happen in QuickTime 7 (and 7.01) for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger"

Don, I found this from Apple Discussion:
When resizing a paused movie, it becomes garbled as I shrink the movie down in size, and restores itself when i let go of the mouse button.

* SOLUTION FOUND: Under System control panel, deselecting the option to display window contents whilst dragging creates UI performance problems within QuickTime when manually resizing the movie using the mouse, and will resolve itself when you release mouse button. When this feature is on (on by default), QuickTime display will be fine.

Not knowing, exactly, what to do, I installed QT7 in a separate directory, and was asked to select file types. I did not add anything new, because I consider QT6.x as a necessary evil to use iTunes. I just added sreaming movies in the file types. When I selected a movie trailer, the choice of iTunes or not came up in Firefox. And, after selecting that I had iTunes, the trailers look better than I ever saw them before. I am not sure what iTunes4.8 uses, but whatever it is, I don't seem to have any problem.
I have not gone into anything else, but I may get more interested in QT, after this initial experience.

I am not sure about QuickTime 7 and iTunes. Currently, QuickTime 7 for Windows is public preview only.
QuickTime is a necessary technology for iTunes.
