There are security issues in 1.4.2_06. The 1.4.2 series has been updated to Version 1.4.2_08. See the 1.4.2_08 Release Notes for additional information.

If you are a developer, then I would say that 1.5 would be the Version that you would want. However, the 1.4.2_08 Release is more than sufficient for the end user.

I'd recommend Sun Java 2 v1.5.0, as it is more up to date, and (in my experience) slightly faster.

IMHO, the v1.4.2.x series of Sun Java 2 is outdated now. Java.com promotes v1.5.0.x
although, for whatever reason, Sun Microsystems are marketing it as v5.0.x instead.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

I bet that I am missing something here because I went to both www.sun.com and www.java.com and they both lead me to download JAVA 1.50.04.

I, myself, am still living dangerously with version 1.4.2_03. :)

profman,

Version 5.0 Update 4 is the latest of the Version 5.0 Releases.

You can download Version 1.4.2_08 at this site:
Download Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, v 1.4.2 (J2SE)

The reference to Version 5.0 is confusing, as once downloaded the Version # is given as 1.5.0_04. I have no idea why it is done this way...

1.4.2_03? You are definitely living on the edge!
