Message Centre new search box, new logo

Postby Antony » Sun 09 Oct, 2005 10:20 pm

As part of SillyDog701's ongoing effect to improve our service, SillyDog701 released a new logo for Message Centre and a new quick search.

Image

SillyDog701 Message Centre has updated the logo for another brighter look.

A new feature of SillyDog701 Message Centre is the quick search box that searches the specified section (sub-forum). The new search box is available in each sub-forum pages, right below the new logo.
e.g. Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox (sub-forum)

As well as implementing a new search box, SillyDog701 has completed re-indexing the forums for better search results.

About SillyDog701 Message Centre.
SillyDog701 Message Centre is a volunteer based technical support forum, focusing on browser technologies. SillyDog701 Message Centre is also a venue for our community.

I really like the new logo since I am quite partial to nice tones of blue, but won't you have to change the entire SillyDog color scheme to match the new logo?

I like the new logo, but on non-Safari browsers the search box doesn't look that good. Maybe you could make something like the guys at aqua-soft.org/board did?

This was something suggested in the online chat.

Antony:
When you redid the site, did you change the font?
I find it very hard to read, it's so small, I have to use my adaptive junk to see it now.

With Mozilla 1.7.12 (Linux), the font is very small. Increasing the font size in Preferences does not change it on this site. On other sites such as Yahoo, the font size changes as expected.

If you go into your user profile, you can set to see the Message Centre in a larger-point font. I belive it is in [tt]Profile and Preferences[/tt] > [tt]Preferences[/tt] > [tt]Board Style[/tt] > [tt]SD701 Large Font[/tt].

Mine is set to "SD701 Large Font" and it's still small.

If font size is your only problem, consider yourself lucky . . .

Thanks for the feedback.

As for the rest of SillyDog701 Message Centre layout, it may be updates in near future.

And the font issue... I have no idea, sorry. I made no changes to the font size and the StyleSheets. Both "SD701 Default" and "SD701 Large Font" work as expected under Safari and Netscape 8.

Don:
It seems to me that you disabled the style sheet, or chose to override the stylesheet.

Antony.

I've seen that same thing, and other strange occurrences at the Message Centre.

Antony - Nice Work

Postby Blackbeard » Thu 13 Oct, 2005 12:00 am

Hi Antony,

You might remeber me, Aint been round here for a while bu have to say as a web designer/developmer myself I thing th e overall look and feel of the site is far better now than this time last wear. Still think the main page at sillydog.com is cluttered and confusing. Not really intuitive in where you want to go.

For the most part I hate the design of PHP websites as most of them are all template driven and it's very limited in what you can do - take PHP Nume and Mambo Sites for instance.

That said I think my next hobby project will be to design along the lines of existing and recent sites I've doe but incorporating PHP.

Bu for now Congatulations on the New Look - a darn site more appealing than before.

- Blackbeard
