Switch S4 doesn't do anything. On the case to this machine there's a label that gives a description of what the switches do; S4 says "Reserved" so I assume it's only for other machines using the same board.

LBA controllers are indeed like gold dust nowadays since just about every board is LBA-controlled anyway. Plus, you need to find an ISA format card unless there's some PCI to ISA converter card that I am not aware of. It's hard to do a search for one though because Microsoft conveniently named their server firewall "ISA Server" so anything you look up for ISA LBA will probably turn out to be a guide on how to create a home-built firewall.

Ron -- 8 or 10GB drives (or for that matter anything in the GB range) is not a drive like that; those are all LBA. The largest non-LBA hard drive that can exist I believe is 540MB.

Wierd, because I remember having to enter all this information about the drive into the computer before it would read the drive.

I've just updated that computer . . . ! To make a long story short, the hard drive was starting to fail and I tried to install Windows NT 4 onto it and it wasn't pretty. Let's just say the hard drive was messed enough I couldn't load any operating system.

So after that, I just figured I'd upgrage most of the hardware in the computer: the motherboard, processor, memory, and hard drive and a new OS.

I got the last part today, and put all the new hardware in this evening.

The new specs on this machine are:

AMD Sempron 2200+ at 1.49 GHz *
256 MB RAM *
80 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive *
CD-RW Drive
CD-ROM Drive
Floppy Drive
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2 *
15" CRT monitor at 1024x768

* Starred items are new.

Really? Even Linux (Mandriva 10.2) runs on my P3 which appears to have only 128MB.

I agree. I've seen Windows XP and SuSE Linux 10 (with KDE 3.4) running on 128mb ram and performance was nothing short of awful. Going to 256mb helped but, realistically, with ram as cheap as it is there's no reason to use less than 512mb for optimal performance.

I just built a new PC. Here are the specs.

I've recently built my self a new computer

The Radeon X1600 XT video card is probably the best part of the system - it's real fast, games just fly!

Any system with a Radeon X1600 is bound to be a more-than-just-good at gaming. What processor are you using in your new machine?

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing a machine with a dual-GPU Radeon X1900 configuration along with a 64-bit dual-core CPU.

Basically the same, but with much faster clock speeds. All those Macs use the Mobility Radeon X1600 which is by default clocked at 400mhz with GDDR3 memory that runs at 400mhz (800mhz effective). The card I have has all the same features, but is clocked at 575mhz with the memory running at 650mhz (1300mhz effective).
