"IEtab" - A Firefox extension, similar to npTriden

This extension is derived from the famous extension IE View, but they are quite different.
While IE View always open IE-only pages in newly launched windows of Internet Explorer, IE Tab can open them in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox.


This feature is very similar to the one provided by Netscape 8's "npTrident" plugin, which enables it to render certain webpages with the Trident engine.

I will say that this is a feature I have no interest whatsoever in.

Personally I don't see why this didn't come about earlier, it's pretty easy to call Internet Explorer from C++ and link it in a library in .NET and I assume in MFC. We've already seen that it's pretty easy to do the opposite (call Mozilla from within IE) using the included MozillaBrowser ActiveX control.

I'm going to go with Andrew on this one -- no thanks.

This is very interesting. Is IEtab trying to compete with Netscape 8?

If so, I hope Netscape can make future versions of Netscape faster and more stable.

You mean AOL and its development subcontractors, don't you? Netscape per se no longer exists.

You mean AOL and its development subcontractors, don't you? Netscape per se no longer exists.
Netscape is still a trading name. Who works for Netscape or if the product being subcontracted is another issue.

What about e-mail?

Just out of curioisty, would it be possible to use this in Mozilla/Netscape mail or Thunderbird, where you use Gecko to render HTML in incoming emails but use Trident for outgoing emails?

It would make it easier to send formatted emails if you can. (And yes, I know some people really hate that.)

IETab in Firefox and Seamonkey

I now have the IETab in both Firefox and Seamonkey, on each of two computers.

I needed to be careful, loading the IETab for Seamonkey from a MozillaSuite extension site. I first errantly loaded it from the Firefox site and when in Seamonkey I clicked on it, Firfefox came up. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not what I wanted, so I fixed it.

My test site for this extension is not MSFT Update, which a lot of people are using as a test; rather, I use a music site that I know currently requires ActiveX to play the music. IETab worked fine in both browsers on both computers.
