Overall, this is a good toolbar!

I doubt the makers of ToolbarStudio, and the convertor tool, had Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
in mind when they created their product primarily for Windows/IE users to install into their browsers.

Mind you, Apple's HIG's really aren't that important for a trivial 3rd party browser toolbar!

It is an important issue in SillyDog701.

Even SillyDog701's webpages are working very hard to follow Apple Human Interface Guidelines.

If I could fix it to be HIG compliant, I would . . .

I have tested the DJGM.co.uk toolbar 1.0 beta 2 on IE 6.0 and Firefox on Windows 98 SE. First thing i noticed is that the search now uses google.com on both versions.

Some comments about the IE version:
  • The dropdown list arrow beside the "DJGM.co.uk" logo now works.
  • Adding the "DJGM.co.uk Browser Toolbar" button to IE's main navigation toolbar still widens icons.
Some comments on the Mozilla Firefox version:
  • Hovering over a button on the toolbar produces a blank tooltip.
  • There is a white-colored box behind the grayscale icons in the toolbar. It looks like this is hard-coded into the toolbar, instead of being transparent. The "DJGM.co.uk" logo also exibhits this behavior.(Firefox and IE versions)

Here is a screenshot of Mozilla Firefox and IE with the toolbar installed:

I tried the toolbar on OS X firefox. I got the same monocrome icons. The drop-down menu worked, but the highlight feature didn't work. The toolbar complained about a javascript error.

Good news . . . just when you thought I'd abandoned this toolbar project, it's coming back!

Actually (TBH) I had abandoned it, due to the issues regarding the colourless icons, and
the fact that it didn't work on what was known as Deer Park, now known as Firefox 1.5.

Having had a look at the ToolbarStudio software again, it looks like the latest version
has those issues fixed, so I'll be resuming the DJGM.co.uk Toolbar project next week.

The only other issue that seems likely to remain unfixed is the non-adherance (sp) to
the Apple Human Interface Guidelines. Now as much as a certain Site Admin would
like all software to adhere to the Apple HIG's, but that is beyond my control.

And since it's a cross-platform browser toolbar I'm working on here, the Apple HIG's
are effectively irrelevant to all those that would install it upon Windows and Linux.

Excellent.
Just a few questions.
Does it work with Firefox 1.5 or only Firefox 1.0.x?

Does it comply with Apple HIG?

Yes, it's fully tested with Firefox 1.5, and works perfectly.

As for the Apple H.I.G. issue, I haven't tested it on Mac yet, so I don't know. Eitherway that's still an
issue beyond my control. It's up to the developers of the Toolbar Studio software if they want the
convertor toolbar to create Firefox toolbars that comply with Apple Human Interface Guidelines.

But since their program primarily creates toolbars for IE on Windows, I doubt that the Apple H.I.G.'s
are that much of a priority for them. If you want, I could package the source files I've used, and
send them to you, so you could somehow hack them to make it comply with the Apple H.I.G.'s.
