“My Netscapeâ€

Postby AustinPaws » Thu 12 Jan, 2006 1:17 am

I use Netscape as my brower and have My Netscape set up with several bookmarks. I have not been able to access "My Netscape" for approx. two weeks. A screen comes up that says "Maintenance-- The page you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later. We apologize for any inconvenience." I figure that by now it's no longer a "maintenance" issue but time to troubleshoot. I don't feel I should have to spend $20 to make a phone call to a Netscape technical person to find out why its system isn't working. I've been trying to troubleshoot it on the web, but have found nothing--I just "found" the SillyDog Message Centre today and am hoping that members can help! Many thanks, AustinPaws

AustinPaws,

Are your bookmarks to My Netscape start with http://my.netscape.com/ ?

Otherwise, try accessing from this URL http://my.netscape.com/ . It works for me.

I know of the My Netscape maintenance screen suffered by some people. I e-mailed for the second time to AOL, today, and about ten days ago, and, still no reply. I will let you know, if I learn something.
It is a website problem, and if AOL does not see fit to acknoledge the problem, they don't deserve the business. There is always Yahoo!

Thank you for responding--I tried Antony's suggestion, but that still took me into the Maintenance screen. Since I now know (thank you Fulvio--GREAT PICTURE!) that the problem is not restricted to my PC, I will switch to Yahoo since Netscape is being so unreponsive! Many thanks for the prompt replies. GREAT PICTURE!

That's the way I feel after dealing with AOL! Still no reply from them.

This is very strange, as I have never had a problem accesssing My Netscape, and, in fact, just did. This is the link that I use:
[tt]http://www.mynetscape.com/index2.psp[/tt]

Antony's link works for me also... :?

Thanks, Romona--now the story gets even more interesting! I entered the mynetscape.com/index2.psp, as you suggested. It brought me into an "unpersonalized" version of My netscape--now the strange part--this new screen contained my "Personal Finance" section, but NOTHING else--rest was generic. When I attempt to then "sign in" or click on "My netscape", I get routed right back into Mynetscape.com/maintenance. I'll ASSUME that AOL will fix this eventually and in the meantime use another browser and periodically check back to see if it's been fixed. Thanks though--I found the results of your suggestion very interesting :!:

The browser has nothing to do with this.

AustinPaws,

Have you tried deleting cookies from Netscape and AOL?
e.g. [tt].screenname.aol.com[/tt] or [tt].my.screenname.aol.com[/tt]
and try to log in again?

Has anyone noticed that it is impossible to sign out of My Netscape? I still see my username, after trying to sign out.

I deleted the cookies as suggested, but still get directed to the Netscape "Maintenance" page. Is there any way to email AOL technical support without having to incur a charge just to inquire as to whether this is an AOL problem that is being addressed?

On the Netscape message board they say AOL is aware of the problem. It is different for certain users. Mine started working again last week after being down for a week. I can sign in and out of my Netscape. Some people can not sign out. And other users the site is still down. But mine is working fine so someone is fixing something.

Antony,
I give up on this. It is more subtle than I thought. I had not tried to reload, but I was using Seamonkey1.5a, never used to access netscape.com, and I used Ramona's link. I logged in, and then after looking at one page, I was able to log off, without having to reload. I then went to Firefox1.0.7, and, apparently, I was logged off after restarting the computer. When I went to the login page, my username was already entered, so I entered the password (checked to remember), and I was in. But, I could not log off, with or without reloading. I then delete each of the 20-30 cookie, and the passwords, as well, and I was logged off. I was logged off also if I replaced the My Netscape tab with. I tried to delete the cookies only, and then reload, and, it did not work, but as soon as I opened another page in place of My Netscape, and when I returned, i was signed off.
