Thanks for pointing out Don.

It's interesting to note that just after the installation of SeaMonkey 1.0 (Final), it told me that an update for SeaMonkey is available.

I'm going to install SM 1.0 shortly ... meanwhile, shouldn't this thread be an "Announcement" . . . ?

I guess, in a way, Mozilla 1.8 was released after all. :)

Seamonkey 1.0 proper installation

Postby richard mitnick » Tue 31 Jan, 2006 4:39 pm

O.K. dudes,

Seamonkey release notes say to uninstall the previous installation. Is that necessary, and, if so, will I lose my current profile?

I installed SeaMonkey 1.0 Final over SeaMonkey 1.0 RC, which I installed over SeaMonkey 1.0 Beta.

I've had no problems so far ... although your mileage may vary . . .

When updating anything, one should uninstall the previous version of the same software first. (The only exception to this that I have seen so far, is for the free ZoneAlarm firewall software, which will detect an existing version if present and update automatically.)

Uninstalling an older release of SeaMonkey and installing 1.0 afterwards, will not affect the profile.

Is the newest SeaMonkey build significantly better than Mozilla Suite 1.7.12?

Presonally, I'd say so. It's got lots of new features that Mozilla 1.7.xx does not have (tab drag and drop reordering, autoscroll, and SVG support to name a few), plus on top of that it's using a much newer Gecko core which is faster than previous suite-based releases.

Thanks Beanboy89. Sounds good to me. I will download it today and replace my Mozilla with it.

Seamonkey like all related programs have independent program and profile. The profiles are never affected by the removal of the program.
So, no problem uninstalling the previous version.

I have had a couple of such popups which were unchecled, coming up, but it never happened again. So, I don't recall if I had the same box, or different ones.

Passwords

Postby patrickberg » Sun 19 Feb, 2006 7:09 pm

 Say, I just installed 1.0 on my OS 10.4 Tigger MAC. I would have thought they fixed the save passwords bug, but they still have not. In preferences I select to never save passwords, but it keeps on asking me each time if I want to save passwords when I fill out forms. What's with that? & what's with the feather logo? Feathers have nothing to do with the sea or monkeys...
