Billion Songs countdown competition

Apple is launching a countdown to 1 billion songs competition. They are giving away a black 4GB iPod nano and a $100 iTunes Music Card to every 100,000th download. The grand-price winner (1 billionth download) will receive a 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods, and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card

We’ve got one billion reasons to celebrate, and we’re starting with you. As we mark our way to one billion, the music fans who download every 100,000th song will receive a prize package featuring a black 4GB iPod nano and a $100 iTunes Music Card, and Apple will create a full-ride scholarship in your name to a world-renowned music school.

And if you're the lucky grand-prize winner who downloads the billionth song from the iTunes Music Store, you'll receive a 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods, and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card to jumpstart your digital music collection. In addition, Apple will create a full-ride scholarship in your name to a world-renowned music school. Just think: You could help launch the careers of an entire generation of musicians.

Last July Apple launched [sdt=9322]500 million songs countdown competition[/sdt] and the 500 millionth song was downloaded by Amy Greer of Lafayette, Indiana. Amy won the grand prize of 10 iPods of her choice, a $10,000 gift card for the Music Store, and additional 10 $50 gift cards. She also won 4 Coldplay Tickets + special "Backstage" ticket of Coldplay concert.

Don't forget to buy your music from Image (any iTunes link in SD701) and for your chance to win the grand-prize.

You don't need to buy music to enter the competition, alternative entry form (no purchase necessary).

I think it would be nice to have a counter displayed on SillyDog701 Message Centre's front page.

There's a price for every 100,000 song download, and no purchase necessary by using this alternative entry form.

Don't steal music, and support SillyDog701 by buying songs through our webpage.

It's closer to 1 billion songs, and we've updated our counter.

The 1 billion countdown counter is now up to the second(*).

(*) with estimation based on two download counts 5 minutes apart, as Apple updates countdown data every 5 minutes.

We are all so excited about this billion songs download, it's not just the prize, but also the sign of people buying legal music.

Even if the song cost 99 cents, the download counts is still far greater than the certain free software.

less than 4.2 million to go. Good luck!

If anything, it's interesting to note that while it took nearly a year and a half to get a hundred million downloads, they were able to get ten times that within the next year and a half.

Of course, the numbers can be slightly misleading. When you buy music, you most likely buy the entire album, minus two or three tracks that you don't want. Given a twelve-track album, the reality of this is more like 1b/9 bulk purchases, or roughly 110 million albums.

Regardless of the numbers, though, the percentage of increase doesn't change.

Personally I'm still into physically buying CDs in the first place, with some [sdt=10000]free stuff[/sdt] thrown in that bands make available on their websites.
