"Marking Subjects as Read" Malfunctions at SillyDo

Postby profman » Thu 30 Mar, 2006 10:50 pm

On my home system, in an old installation of Mozilla Suite 1.7.12, the "Mark all topics as read" button no longer has any effect. Manually opening each topic still does have the effect of marking the topic as read. (In my browser, unread topics have a green glow around them.) Re-loading the page has no effect on this problem. All other aspects of the read/unread posts seems to work when I am at my home machine.

On my office system (also Mozilla suite 1.7.12), only the first forum that I visit has the "green", unread threads. Once I visit that forum and back out of it, a re-load will show all forums and threads as "non-green" and already read. The only way that I have found to get work with this behavior is to never re-load the "Message Centre" page so that the forums with unread posts still appear green, but, when I enter those forums, all the threads show as read. I am then forced to look at each thread's date and time of last post in order to determine which posts are new to me.

I have tried, on my office machine, several things to see if there is any change in this behavior on that system. I have erased the cache file, the history file, all cookies, and the XUL.mfl file. There has been no change.

Anyone else have strange problems like this?

It's a result of the new URL system, which doesn't accept the &mark=read option.

You can use "Mark all forums as read" on the fron tpage as an override.

To note, "Watch this topic for replies (e-mail notification" and "View Next/Previous Topic" are broken because of the same issue.

Is this a new URL system in the code at SillyDog or what exactly?

And does it make sense that the same browser (Mozilla Suite 1.7.12) acts differently at work than it does at home? At home, only the "Mark all topics read" seems not to work whereas, at work, all topics, after the first one I read, somehow get marked as read. (The work system, of course, does have a proxy and firewall set up.)

I also still get some E-mail notification of replies.

Both Mark topics as read (in each subforum) and watching/unwatching topics are fixed.

The "View previous/next topic" feature is still broken, as &view=next and &view=previous don't do anything.

Hi,

It is very good to know that that links are working. I was very worried that the forum would stop without those links but it is very good that it did not.
