Netscape 7.2 "Inbox" Size

Postby pwallacew » Sun 09 Apr, 2006 10:18 pm

My Inbox doesn't have any messages, either opened or otherwise, yet the Inbox Size is listed as 198 MB. I can understand why my Trash would be 145MB, because I never purged it. Why the size on the Inbox??

If you never compacted your folders, the Inbox will, still, have the e-mails which are, now, in the Trash folders, plus the e-mails which were in the Trash folders, and were dumped in the past. In other words there is nothing but junk in your Inbox.
To my knowledge the record was about 15 MB in the Inbox file, and 3 e-mails in the Inbox. The fellow who owned it, did file|compact, and the Inbox had gone down to less than 20Kb.
So, if you want to keep your messages in the Trash, just in case, it is ok, but expect to have been associated with the Inbox, still.

You can do the compacting automatically, from Edit|Preferences|Mail and News|Offline and Disk space. Enter some value in Disk Space.
But, I got in the habit of doing it on the regular basis. If anything ends in the Trash, it is gone, because the Trash is emptied, and I right click|Compact every time I exit mail. If I am not sure I put e-mail in a special subfolder.
