The SeaMonkey Council has released SeaMonkey 1.0.1, an update to the first SeaMonkey release a few months back. SeaMonkey 1.0.1 fixes eight security vulnerabilities and SeaMonkey now has Mac OS X Universal Binary support.

The Release Notes incluse a What's New page and a rough changelog, noting the changes since SeaMonkey 1.0.

I uninstalled 1.0, and installed 1.0.1 in the same directory. Everything looks fine. But, I have to tell about a bizzarre encounter with the setup file of 1.0. I save all the setup files, just in case, but I thought it was safe to remove the 1.0.exe, and just save the 1.0.1 setup.
When I selected to delete, right click|delete, I got a Confirm popup which said:Invalid size or checksum of file or unsupported compression format-Native error 00008.
File processing error, possibly disk full, and the choice of Abort, Retry or Ignore. I selected Ignore, three time in a row, and on the fourth onem I was asked: are you sure that you want o send file to the Recycle Bin. I said yes, and, it was gone! I never saw anything so crazy.

pages seem to load faster.
the XUL.mfl is getting larger.

I see that you have win98. I have WinXP, and, it ain't there. I know that the latest versions of Firefox placed some profile files in unexpected places, but I don't see anything like that for Seamonkey1.0.1 or 1.5a (two different profiles).But, who knows what is going on. I found this path: C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
xxxxx.default, with minimal size files. Who knows what else is lurking around?

I noticed that my XUL.mfl on Seamonkey now will turn up in the following folder on XP and 2000: [tt]%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\(profile name)[/tt]. I don't know why it was switched from Application Data to Local Settings\Application Data.

As for stopping XUL.mfl from becoming larger, you could always just open it in Notepad, erase everything, save, and set a Read-Only attribute on the file. I've done that for awhile, and nothing's happened as a result, though I can't make any guarantees that the same will hold true for anybody else.

the XUL.mfl is approx 2mb in size.
another thing the cache size is now is 59mb and in preferences for cache its set to 50mb.

You don't need to keep any of those file. I, routinely, delete the Cache. I don't know why it is larger the limit. My Cache is kept low.
As for the xul.mfl file, it has tended to grow with time. I deleted my NS7.2, which I hardly ever use, at nearly 4 MB.
I, vaguely, remember seeing the xul.mfl files and Cache in the location mentioned by Don, but I had forgotten. Oddly, all my profiles, even those of Netscape7.2 have a folder in the new location, although nothing is in them.
I just deleted my 3MB xul.mfl file, which, in all fairness has been used for Moz1.7.12, in its other life. Deleting the file with the program closed is ok. It will be rebuilt, and up to 1MB, in no time.
