"Insert" funtion in Thunderbird 'compose' window

Postby fgm » Tue 04 Jul, 2006 8:21 am

Thunderbird 1.5.0.4...

For some time I have had problems with inserting pictures with text when composing email.
After typing some text and the need for an image to be inserted within the text is required, it is always a 50/50 chance that the image will appear in the compose window. At times I could need several images inserted with in the text but once the first or second image has been successfully transfered, there next one would only have a 'box' showing where an image should be.
I can get around the problem by starting over and adding all the images at once and then segregating them with text as required but I do feel that it is a 'finger' problem on my part.

So a little guidence on "Insersion" would be useful !

Do you have an image editor? If so add your captions in the Editor and save the image. Then insert that image in the message.

Of course, like many others I have several image editors's to choose from and I do modify images for size and content ready for use in an email and they reside on the desktop. I don’t usually choose to use ‘captions’ for any image as reference is made to them within my email text.
I does seem to me that the way Thunderbird deals with inserting images is a bit ‘hit and miss’.

Hi fgm,

I also have this problem when using TB1504, what I normally do is to save the mail first as draft, close it then reopen it from draft folder then you can insert the image again. I think this is one of the TB's bugs.

As as an update on the original problem. This 'save as a draft' method above seems to work. I insert an image, save it, reopen and add another image and so on until email is completed.
Thanks again for the tip...

inserting images in composer window

I don't see where is the problem: Can't you just type your message and whenever needed, just drag a .jpg pic from your files onto the composer window, where it will instantly appear.
If you want to add another pic, select the first one, click on the right side of it to bring the cursor, then press Return and drag the next pic.

Hi...

Well done! I didn't think of this method of inserting images, it does work very well I must say and solves the original problem once and for all. Case closed -- until Thunderbird 2 arrives.....
