Virtual memory running low with SeaMonkey

Postby cemed » Sun 24 Sep, 2006 5:36 pm

I have XP and using Sea Monkey for browser. A little yellow warning showed up telling me that my virtual memory mimimum was too low.
I never heard of this before. Is this a big problem? Only thing I ever downloaded on this computer is Sea Monkey. What should I do to resolve this problem if needed? Thanks for any suggestions.

Your description does not ring any bell, including where is the yellow arrow which you see.
So, is this a new or very slightly used computer, with only the original programs, and seamonkey is the only new install. I don't think that the download triggered the problem, but, possibly the installation. I know of a fellow who installed Outlook, and started having error message, and he was given this Microsoft link.
He never answered, so I don't know if he accomplished anything. You should also check your computer Start|Help and Support. I found a lot of Microsoft issues, but not about yellow arrow.
Although the circumstantial evidence involves Seamonkey, I doubt that it has anything to do with your problem, other than it triggered it.

This computer was purchased in December of 04. I have had sea monkey in there for several months and no problems. The warning showed itself down by the clock as a lttle yellow panel. At that time the computer was somewhat slow. I did the disk clean up, defraged, restarted and it seems to be okay. Did a complete scan and nothing showed up. I just use it for email, research, play a little bridge and general surfing. Thanks for the reply Fulvio.

I had gotten the impression that Seamonkey was just installed. If the warning came up when you started SM would have told me to do exactly what you did, and a bit more. Warnings of that kind are Windows warnings.

More problems. Now SM keeps telling me that an error has occured and
it has to shut down. Then I get the vertual memory minimum warning again. At time the computer really slows down or just freezes up. I have to shut down manually. After restarting everything works good for maybe half a day or sometimes the entire day. At start up the next morning everything works well until I start getting the warnings again. I have never upgraded to SM 1.0.5. Any suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Just firing in the dark here since I don't have Seamonkey.

Do you have add-ons (extentions, themes)?.
Is there a 'Safe' mode available?
What are your Windows settings: Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance - Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory - Change ?

If these problems arose recently, was there any system change that was activated about the same time?

Nothing new added or changed in any way. Just out of the blue as they say. I think it has something to do with SM but so far can't find anything in the help drop down that talks about the problem.

In first place, as you know, uninstalling a program does not lose your data. Why would Seamonkey do anything like that I don't know, but I would feel more comfortable if you would download SM1.0.5. Then, uninstall your 1.0, even restarting your computer to make sure that some registry keys are deleted. Then, install 1.0.5. I will pick up everything you had before.
You have WinXP like I do. See what windows have to say about Virtual Memory. There is a lot there, at Start|Help and Support. Search for Virtual Memory. You should be able to get some answers. By the way what is your memory (RAM)?

I removed SM1.0.3. and installed WM 1.0.5. and increased the settings for vertual memory. Not much change if any. Then through trial and error, I found that my screansaver was the culprit. When It's on the computer slows down and will actually freeze at times. With out the screansaver on no problem. Normal speed surfing and no slow downs. Anybody got a explanation for that.

Which screensaver - one of those that are a part of Windows, or something that you downloaded?
Are there Settings available for this screensaver?

The screensaver is a part of windows. I did not download it. I imagine there are settings for it yes.
