I said that I preferred AMD's solution because at the time, they were the only ones offering dual-core 64-bit laptop processors. If I could've waited for the faster Core 2 Duo I would have, but I don't think I need to go over the state of disrepair my other laptop was in.

Antony wrote:Also, you are one of the first persons to have fast 64-bit CPU.

Mandrake had a Prescott before I got the Turion IIRC.

Also, I wouldn't mind getting more RAM. Problem is, I need to do some more research into what this thing supports; for some reason I don't believe how the user's manual says "4096MB maximum", given that everything else says "2048MB maximum". So currently I still only have a three-digit amount of physical memory once you factor out the HyperMemory shared part, unlike the rest of you.

I only have a single-digit amount of physical memory (main), if you want to know (in GB). As you know that I can't afford the additional 1GB to max out the RAM.

Of course, we all know that Don is poor, and could not afford to wait another two or three months for a fast Core 2 Duo laptop to hit the market.

I'm not poor anymore! :) But Antony is so rich, he has 2GB of memory!

FWIW, I used the ASUS P5B motherboard for this build. Anyone want to buy an ATX case with a Foxconn Intel 945 motherboard, Prescott CPU, and a half working Liteon DVD-RW drive?

Next upgrade will be to 2GB of ram. Then probably a faster video card (Geforce 8600? Radeon X2600?)

How much credit would I get for an LPX case with a Compaq motherboard, Pentium Overdrive CPU, and a 2x Memorex CD-ROM drive? I'll even throw in a vintage '89 monitor and a dead 120MB EIDE hard drive with it!

I now have one less Mac.

I sold my Power Mac G4 dual 1.42 GHz and Apple Cinema Display. (Detail at bye bye Mac entry)

This also means Pu7o has the greatest number of (working) Macs. Antony is poor.

Just wondering, how much did you get for it?

No, the Power Mac G4 you've sold was far from obsolete in my opinion. As for my PowerMac G3, it isn't me
that considers it to be "vintage". Apple officially classes it as "vintage". Same goes for my iMac G3.

Instead of making snide remarks on your blog, do your research. I did.

Far less than the cost of your fast 64-bit laptop. Only AUD 1000.

I wasn't trying to relate it to the price of my laptop, you know.

My video card died. :( I'm never buying Ati products again! Until Wednesday, when I'll go and get a nice new Nvidia card, I'm stuck with a PCI S3 Trio video card with 2mb memory that can either do 800x600 @ 32bit or 1024x768 @ 16bit. Multi-monitor? DVI? Forget it.

I've got a 2MB NeoMagic GPU in the Gateway laptop, running at 1024x768/16bpp. Even basic stuff like scrolling through text lags on that thing.

Yay! I've got a new XFX Nvidia 7600 GT video card! The stock clocks on it are 650/1600. It's awesome fast. :)

I just added and extra 512MB of memory to my PC, it is a little bit faster but not an incredible speed increse. It reads 920MB because I am using intergrated graphics.

Just wondering, how do I get this to stop taking 64MB of my RAM. I installed a spare 128MB video card and disabled the intergrated graphics, now how do i get my memory back?
