With the release of Adobe Creative Suite 3, there's a new addition to Photoshop family - Photoshop CS3 Extended. This specialised version of Photoshop includes features geared towards image analysis, 3D, and motion support for video and animation along with all of the features in Photoshop CS3.

Photoshop CS3 Extended adds a measurement log palette, calculates value ranges in images, a scale marker, and supports multiple 3D model file formats, texture editing for 3D models, an enhanced vanishing point feature that measures in perspective on 3D models. The video post production tools include layer support in frame-by-frame video editing, exporting to several video formats and Flash.

Photoshop CS3 Extended will be available in April, and the recommended retail price is US$999. (The recommended retail price for Photoshop CS3 is US$649.)

For video post production, Adobe also released Creative Suite 3 Production Premium suite. It contains After Effects CS3 Professional, Premiere Pro CS3, Photoshop CS3 Extended, Flash CS3 Professional, Illustrator CS3, Soundbooth CS3, Encore CS3, OnLocation CS3, Ultra CS3, Dynamic Link, Device Central CS3, and Adobe Bridge CS3.

It is interesting to note that on Mac versions, Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and Adobe Soundbooth CS3 are not Universal applications, they are only available for Intel-based Macs. Also, Adobe OnLocation CS3 and Adobe Ultra CS3 are Windows only.

The suite requires at least a G4 processor for the Universal Binary applications. Other system requirements includes Mac OS X 10.4.9, at least 1GB of RAM for DV, and 2GB or more for HDV and HD editing, 1280x1024 monitor resolution, a 32 bit video card, QuickTime 7.1.5, and a DVD ROM drive for installation.

Adobe CS3 Production Premium is priced at US$1699 and will be available in the third quarter of 2007. (Upgrade starts at US$799.)

If you are looking for CS3, and want to save yourself some money, you can do so now, legally.

You can buy any of the current version 2.3 Creative Suite now (before CS3 ships), and be eligible for a free upgrade to the equivalent CS3 version.

Since Adobe has announced the new CS3, and it is still net yet available. You can take this opportunity to save you some money with Adobe's Post Announcement Upgrade Policy, "Customers who purchase an Adobe product during a limited time after Adobe announces a new product version, are eligible for a free upgrade to the current version".

The current price for Adobe CS 2.3 is significantly cheaper than CS 3.
