CD drive list

Postby Fulvio » Thu 04 Oct, 2007 1:17 pm

My computer has a DVD-CD player drive (D), and a CD burner (E).
When I want to do anything, in either drive, a Windows popup comes up. In it there is a list of player which include everything I ever had, with the exception of Winamp, which I use almost exclusively for playing and burning. I even went so far as checking "Take no action" line, and the popup comes up smack on top of my Winamp. This is as dumb as it can be.
I tried to mess with the file types in the Windows|Tools|File types, and I don't see anything obvious. I don't need to have Winamp in the list. I just want to stop that nonsense popup.
Any idea?

This is a pain. There's an easy fix, but it's not exactly quick.

Open 'My Computer', right click on the optical drive and click 'properties'. Click on the 'AutoPlay' tab and then you'll see a list of 'content types' (music files, pictures etc.). Select the first one in the list, and under 'Actions' choose 'Take no action'. Do this for each 'content type'. Then click 'OK' and you're done for the first drive. Then you get to do it all over again for the other drive.

Hope this helps you. :)

If it works it is handy, and no effort, because my settings were to Prompt me. I changed to select, and selected take no action. And, it works. Thanks.
